STATE Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu has told a gathering of Yarra Ranges business people that a coalition state government would mean more police for the Yarra Ranges and increased security at train stations such as Lilydale and Mooroolbark.
``You've got to train and retain and to do the right thing by the coppers who are already in the force,'' Mr Baillieu said.
``The 940 (police) that we have committed to the rail system will make a significant difference and that's enough to put two on every station after dark plus 100 transit police who will roam the network, including buses,'' he said.
At a breakfast attended by 130 at the Foothills Conference Centre on Tuesday, March 2, Mr Baillieu professed a passion for the Yarra Valley and recalled his days as a young architect working on several projects in the area, including the Chum Creek Camp.
Yarra Ranges business operator Jim Penman, the owner of the conference centre and the Jim's franchises, said small business ``needed a coalition government''.
Kilsyth state Liberal MP David Hodgett and Evelyn state Liberal MP Christine Fyffe hosted the event with proceeds donated to the state party's fighting fund for the November 27 election.
