Fifteen local schools will get funding for building improvements under the Federal Governments School Pride Program.
Kilsyth MP David Hodgett was pleased with the $3.2million funding for the works in local schools, but was disappointed that the State Government had been unable to fulfil its responsibilities.
“It is a shame that the State Government has dropped the ball on our local schools, however it is great news that local schools will receive some much needed funding,” Mr Hodgett said.
“Education is an extremely important part of this area, and I have been calling on the State Government to increase funding to our schools for years.”
“While it is disappointing that the State Government has continued to ignore repair and maintenance needs in our schools, thankfully, the announcement means that local schools will gain access to funds for various important upgrades.”
“Under the funding, St Peter Julian Eymard will get new sport and playground areas and Gladesville Primary School will get a new toilet block.”
Mr Hodgett said that while it was disappointing some schools had still not received any funding, the move was a positive for schools in the local area.
“Since being elected, I have been calling on the Government to show a greater commitment to developing and maintaining the best possible education opportunities for our children. This funding is one step towards achieving this, and hopefully is an indication of further funding to come.”
